This project is based on a challenge I recieved to design a product based on a book character. The result became Bluejay Quality Archival Inks, a professional ink line based on the character Mortimer Folchart from Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart series. Mortimer is a kind bookbinder with a secret magical talent: he can read book characters to life. Eventually, he becomes the Bluejay, a vigilante who protects the weak and innocent of the magical world. Each symbol on the packaging ties into the series. The feather pens and bluejays tie to Mortimer’s character, the marten and flames tie into the secondary character Dustfinger, and the fairies and poppies tie into Meggie, Mortimer’s daughter. Silver foil and a wooden stand complete each “treasure chest” box.
